What a strip actually does

It lifts from the outside. Nothing goes in.

Drag the slider to apply the strip.

The narrowest point

The tightest part of your nose is the part you can see.

Just inside the nostrils, where the sides of the nose are softest, is the narrowest point air passes through. When it narrows a little more, at night or with a stuffy nose, breathing through your nose takes more effort, and you drift to breathing through your mouth.

A strip works on exactly that spot, from the outside.

Inside the strip

Four layers, one job.

  1. 01

    Breathable fabric outer

  2. 02

    Three flexible spring bands

    The bands do the lifting.

  3. 03

    Skin adhesive

  4. 04

    Peel-off backing with tabs

Everything except the bands is there to hold them in the right place, comfortably, all night.

Simple on purpose.

  1. 01

    Nothing inside your nose.

No spray, no clip, nothing to swallow. It sits on the outside and works mechanically.

  2. 02

    On in thirty seconds.

Clean, dry nose, peel, place, press. A fresh strip each night.

  3. 03

    Made to stay put.

Designed to hold through a night's sleep or a training session.

  4. 04

    Under 60p a night.

From 43p a night on the 150-night pack.

The one thing to get right

Lower than you think.

Most people put a strip too high, on the hard bony bridge between the eyes, where there is nothing to lift. It belongs lower, just above where your nostrils flare out, across the soft sides of your nose. Get that right and the rest is easy.

What the evidence says

What strips do, and what they do not.

Nasal strips reliably widen the nostrils and make breathing through your nose easier, and many people say they sleep better with one. Studies measuring snoring have had mixed results, and strips do not help sleep apnoea.

If your partner notices you stop breathing or gasp in your sleep, see your GP rather than buying anything.

Read the full evidence in our Journal: Do nasal strips work for sleep and snoring?

“Will it hurt to take off?”

It should not. Peel it slowly from one end, towards the middle. If your skin is sensitive, wash your face with warm water first and it lifts more easily.

Take a break for a night or two if your nose gets sore, and never put a strip on broken or sunburnt skin.

Before you start

Not suitable for children under 3. Do not use on broken, sore or sunburnt skin. For a blocked nose that lasts, see a pharmacist or your GP.

An honest comparison

Three ways to open a nose.

Each one works differently. Only one stays on the outside.

The second step

Once your nose is open, keep using it.

Some people find their mouth still drifts open at night even when their nose feels clear. Peak Mouth Tape holds the lips gently closed. Start with the strip on its own, and add the tape only once nose breathing feels easy.

Questions, answered

01Where exactly does it go?

Just above where your nostrils flare out, across the soft sides of your nose. Not on the hard bridge between your eyes.

02Will it fit my nose?

One size, 6.2 x 2.2 cm, made for adult noses. Not suitable for children under 3.

03Can I use one every night?

Most adults can, as long as the skin stays healthy. Use a fresh strip each night and take a break if your nose gets sore.

04Will it stop my snoring?

It might help if your snoring comes from a narrow or blocked nose. It will not help snoring that comes from further back, in the throat or soft palate. If snoring persists, or someone notices pauses in your breathing, see your GP.

05Can I wear it for exercise?

Yes. Many people use strips on steady runs, rides or gym sessions where they want to keep breathing through the nose. Apply to clean, dry skin before you start sweating.

06Is it safe with a cold?

Yes, it can make a stuffy nose feel a little easier. It does not treat the cold. Do not use it on broken or sore skin.

07What if it is not for me?

Unopened packs can be returned within 30 days of delivery.

The easiest breathing you will do all day happens with your eyes shut.
