The desk day

Where the tightness comes from.

09:00Your head sits over your shoulders and the muscles at the back of your neck barely notice it.

16:00Your head has drifted forward towards the screen. The same muscles have been holding it there for hours.

19:00Lie back. The ridge takes the neck, the cradle takes the head, and those muscles have nothing left to do.

The heaviest part of a desk day

Your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball. Your neck holds it all day.

At a desk it rarely sits straight. It drifts forward towards the screen, and the muscles along the back of your neck and across your shoulders hold it there, hour after hour. By the evening that is the tight, heavy feeling you notice when you finally stop.

A normal pillow is built for sleeping, not for letting those muscles switch off.

How the shape works

One shape. Three jobs.

  1. Ridge

    The ridge

Sits under the curve of your neck, so your neck is supported rather than hanging.

  2. Cradle

    The cradle

A hollow for the back of your head, so it rests a little lower than your neck and does not roll off.

  3. Nodules

    The raised bumps

Small bumps across the surface give firmer points of pressure where the neck meets the shoulders.

Support underneath, and nothing for your muscles to do.

Built for the part of you a desk works hardest.

  1. 01

    Supported, not propped.

A pillow lifts your head. CerviRelief Pro supports your neck from underneath and lets your head rest lower in the cradle, which is how the muscles at the back of the neck get to stop working.

  2. 02

    Somewhere to let go.

With your head held, there is nothing to brace. A few minutes lying still, breathing slowly, is often enough for the tight, heavy feeling to ease.

  3. 03

Small enough to become a habit.

About 22 x 17.5 cm, it lives under the bed or behind the sofa and takes no setting up. The minutes you actually do every evening beat the massage you keep meaning to book.

How to use it

Lie back. Eight minutes. Get up slowly.

  1. 01

    Place it.

Put it on the floor, a mat or a firm bed, ridge towards your feet. Lie back so the ridge sits under your neck and your head rests in the cradle.

  2. 02

    Settle.

Arms by your sides, knees bent if that is more comfortable. Breathe slowly and let your head feel heavy.

  3. 03

Up to eight minutes, then up slowly.

Start with five minutes for the first few days and build to eight. Roll onto your side before you sit up. It is for a session, not for sleeping on all night.

“Is this safe for my neck?”

For most people, used for a few minutes at a time, it is simply a firm, shaped rest. It should feel like a stretch across the back of your neck, never pain. If anything tingles, goes numb, or you feel dizzy, stop and sit up slowly.

Before you start

Do not use CerviRelief Pro if you have a neck injury, have had neck or spine surgery, have osteoporosis or inflammatory arthritis affecting the neck, or have been told to avoid neck stretches. If you have ongoing neck pain, headaches, or pain that travels into your arms, see your GP or a physiotherapist first. CerviRelief Pro is a comfort product for relaxation, not a medical device or treatment.

An honest comparison

Why not just use a rolled-up towel?

A rolled towel is where most people start, and it is not a bad idea. It just does not stay the shape you made it.

The rest of the desk day

Your neck is only half of it.

The same hours at a screen settle into your shoulders and upper back. TheraPeanut Pro works there: two spheres either side of the spine, with vibration if you want it. A few minutes on each, and you have covered everything a desk day leaves behind.

Questions, answered

01How long should I use it for?

Start with five minutes a day for the first few days, then build to eight. It is for a session, not for sleeping on all night.

02Will it hurt?

It should feel like a firm stretch across the back of your neck, not pain. If it hurts, tingles or makes you dizzy, stop. The ridge can feel firm at first; a folded towel under it softens it while you get used to it.

03Can I use it on a bed?

A firm bed works. On a soft mattress the ridge sinks and does less, so a floor, mat or sofa is better.

04Is it suitable for everyone?

No. Skip it if you have a neck injury, have had neck or spine surgery, have osteoporosis, or have been told to avoid neck stretches. With ongoing neck pain, headaches or pain travelling into your arms, see your GP or a physiotherapist first.

05What if it is not for me?

You have 30 days from delivery to return it. Change-of-mind returns pay their own postage; faulty items are replaced free.
