What a strip actually does
It lifts from the outside. Nothing goes in.
Drag the slider to apply the strip.
The narrowest point
The tightest part of your nose is the part you can see.
Just inside the nostrils, where the sides of the nose are softest, is the narrowest point air passes through. When it narrows a little more, at night or with a stuffy nose, breathing through your nose takes more effort, and you drift to breathing through your mouth.
A nasal strip works on exactly that spot, from the outside.
Inside the strip

The one thing to get right
Lower than you think.
Most people put a strip too high, on the hard bony bridge between the eyes, where there is nothing to lift. It belongs lower, just above where your nostrils flare out, across the soft sides of your nose. Get that right and the rest is easy.
What the evidence says
What strips do, and what they do not.
Nasal strips reliably widen the nostrils and make breathing through your nose easier, and many people say they sleep better with one. Studies measuring snoring have had mixed results, and strips do not help sleep apnoea.
If your partner notices you stop breathing or gasp in your sleep, see your GP rather than buying anything.
“Will it hurt to take off?”
It should not. Peel it slowly from one end, towards the middle. If your skin is sensitive, wash your face with warm water first and it lifts more easily.
Take a break for a night or two if your nose gets sore, and never put a strip on broken or sunburnt skin.
Before you start
Not suitable for children under 3. Do not use on broken, sore or sunburnt skin. For a blocked nose that lasts, see a pharmacist or your GP.
An honest comparison
Three ways to open a nose.
Each one works differently. Only one stays on the outside.

The second step
Once your nose is open, keep using it.
Some people find their mouth still drifts open at night even when their nose feels clear. Peak Mouth Tape holds the lips gently closed. Start with the strip on its own, and add the tape only once nose breathing feels easy.

Questions, answered
01Do nasal strips actually work?
They do one thing reliably: the spring bands lift the sides of your nose outward, widening your nostrils so breathing through your nose takes less effort. Many people say they sleep better with one. They only work on the front of the nose, so they will not clear a blockage further back.
02Are these the same as blackhead nose strips?
No. Blackhead or pore strips are skin care: you peel them off to clean your pores. Peak Airflow are nasal strips for breathing: spring bands that lift the sides of your nose outward, so breathing through your nose takes less effort. They will not clean pores, and a pore strip will not hold your nostrils open.
03Do nasal strips help with snoring?
They might if your snoring comes from a narrow or blocked nose. They will not help snoring that comes from further back, in the throat or soft palate, and they do not treat sleep apnoea. If snoring persists, or someone notices pauses in your breathing, see your GP.
04Where exactly does it go?
Just above where your nostrils flare out, across the soft sides of your nose. Not on the hard bridge between your eyes. One size, about 6.2 x 2.2 cm, made for adult noses.
05Can I use one every night?
Most adults can, as long as the skin stays healthy. Use a fresh strip each night, because each one is single use and the adhesive will not hold properly a second time, and take a break if your nose gets sore.
06Can I wear it for exercise or with a cold?
Yes to both. Many people use strips on steady runs, rides or gym sessions where they want to keep breathing through the nose; apply to clean, dry skin before you start sweating. With a cold, a strip can make a stuffy nose feel a little easier, but it does not treat the cold.
07Are there any downsides?
The main one is skin. Pulling a strip off quickly can leave your nose sore, so peel it slowly, and skip a night or two if it gets tender. Oily skin stops it holding, so wash and dry your nose first, and never use one on broken or sunburnt skin.
